Botox (also known as botulinum toxin or azzalure) is a protein that inhibits nerve impulses from the brain to selected muscular tissues. As a result, facial muscles relax and wrinkles are eliminated.
Botox is injected using a disposable syringe with a tiny needle that is several times thinner than a blood collection needle. The pain accompanying botox injection is minimal. For this reason, the procedure requires no local anaesthesia. Patients can resume their normal daily activities immediately after the injection of botulinum toxin.
Botox, also known as botulinum toxin, is a simple, safe and extremely effective therapeutic method used to reduce wrinkles and lines. No diagnostic tests are required before botox administration. However, the administration of botulinum toxin calls for high precision. Therefore, in our Clinic, this procedure is performed by experienced physicians.
Botox does not change facial expressions. When injected in a small dose into an appropriate muscular tissue, it leads to the relaxation of the muscles responsible for the formation of wrinkles, while the function of the other muscles remains intact.
The Botox technique has been widely used in the world and well-appreciated by our patients. The effects after a botulinum toxin therapy last for 4-6 months (depending on each case individually).
The procedure can be repeated many times. With each repeated botox injection, the duration of the effects is prolonged. As a result, the subsequent sessions can be administered at increasingly longer intervals. The effectiveness of such therapy increases despite the decreasing frequency of injections.
The Botox procedure lasts approximately 15 minutes. The amount of time depends on the number of wrinkles to be removed. The procedure is effective against such wrinkles as crow’s feet around the eyes, smoker's wrinkles on the upper lip, horizontal lines on the forehead and furrows between the eyebrows.
Botox needs time to assimilate. The toxin starts to take effect 2-3 days after administration and full effects of the procedure can be seen at least 14 days afterwards.
