Hyaluronic acid is a natural and essential component of skin, responsible for its proper hydration and firmness. As the skin grows older, the amount of hyaluronic acid is dramatically reduced, leading to the formation of wrinkles and making the cheeks lose their former shape.
Hyaluronic acid, which is naturally present in the body, can be successfully implemented. When injected into the skin, it fills the nasolabial folds, lines around the mouth and eyes and wrinkles on the cheeks as well as corrects the drooping corners of the mouth, thus giving the face a younger look. Thanks to hyaluronic acid, the skin regains its elasticity, the wrinkles disappear and the face looks younger again.
The preparation containing hyaluronic acid is an elastic gel which fills a given area upon subcutaneous injection. The procedure involves injecting appropriate layers of the skin with small portions of the gel. This is performed by means of a special cannula (a long, thin tube with a small opening at the end, used for administering preparations) which reduces the risk of bruising, or a very thin needle which minimises the patient's discomfort.
Before the procedure, which lasts approximately 30–60 minutes, the skin is anaesthetised with a special cream. Slight swelling, reddening or itching may occur immediately after the procedure. However, these symptoms subside after 2-4 days. The effects of the procedure are visible immediately and look very natural. Hyaluronic acid stays in the body for approximately one year.
The procedure using hyaluronic acid is fully reversible. Over time, this easily absorbable substance is absorbed by the body. Hyaluronic acid demonstrates regenerating properties and leaves the skin in a better condition than before applied.
The treatment with hyaluronic acid should be repeated. After approximately 9-12 months, the acid is completely absorbed, making the regenerated skin ready to receive another dose. Even though the absorption of hyaluronic acid needs repeated sessions to be effective, it is safe and guarantees that there will be no permanent changes on the face.
Hyaluronic acid is also used for modelling facial contours, e.g. the cheeks and areas around the lips, as well as for shaping the lips. Hyaluronic acid is the main component of the Voluma preparation, which not only eliminates wrinkles, but also acts as a lifting therapy, thereby increasing the volume of your cheeks.
The Voluma preparation has been developed because the injections containing hyaluronic acid alone are not capable of restoring the facial volume. The effects last for up to 12-18 months after the treatment.
